Proximity to Mount Diablo
Mount Diablo State Park, with its 3,849-foot summit and 520 miles of trails, sits within an hour's drive of Concord and offers one of the Bay Area's widest views.
Mount Diablo rises 3,849 feet above the valley floor in Contra Costa County, part of a protected landscape of more than 90,000 acres including the state park itself and surrounding conservation lands. The summit is reached by road and hiking trail; from the top, visitors can see the Sierra Nevada range on clear days, as well as eight major Bay Area bridges and, on rare occasions, Lassen Peak 181 miles to the north. A visitor center at the summit houses an observation deck and natural history exhibits.
The park sprawls across the landscape with 520 miles of trails open to hiking and equestrian use, some suitable for mountain biking. Camping and picnic areas serve visitors throughout the year. The park's location—south of Clayton and northeast of Danville, within an hour of Concord—makes it accessible to families seeking weekend outdoor time. The annual Mount Diablo Challenge bicycle race, which draws 800 to 1,100 riders each October, shows the draw the mountain holds for the region.
Families often return to favorite places at different stages of life: a young couple's first hike, children learning to navigate a trail, grandparents watching the view. As those families grow and change, their insurance needs evolve just as predictably. A term policy chosen when the mortgage is new might need adjustment when a second child arrives or when that mortgage is halfway paid. Matching coverage to the season of life, rather than setting it once and forgetting it, is how insurance stays useful.
